Designer Chihiro Yamamoto has created the MA Chair with a cover made from a single piece of Japanese paper called Naoron.
As the chair is sat on repeatedly, unique wrinkles are made on the Naoron paper. “Even the act of using it is the process of completing the chair,” added Chihiro.
Taking sustainability into account, Chihiro created the MA Chair as an alternative to mass-produced pieces that tend to be undervalued and tossed in landfills after a short lifespan.
“I produced this chair that I want you to continue loving it and use longer and more carefully,” said Chihiro.
With four metal legs, the structure of the chair is simple and designed to emphasize the texture of Naoron paper. “I was thinking of the most suitable form while inspecting comfort and a feeling of size,” explained Chihiro.
