Carine Roitfeld, French fashion editor and CR Fashion Book founder, has partnered with AIDS research foundation amfAR on a virtual runway to help raise funds for COVID-19 research.

“In times of great uncertainty, our support for one another is more important than ever. Embracing fashion as the creative expression through which to support the health and safety of our global communities, we hope this show can offer a small moment of hope, inspiration and uplifting connection for those who are doing their part to self-isolate. A modest contribution as our world unites to collectively weather the storm of this pandemic together,” Roitfeld said of the event in a press release.

The 30-minute digital runway titled “CR Runway with amfAR Against COVID-19: Fashion Unites” will be hosted by Derek Blasberg, head of fashion and beauty partnerships at YouTube, and will see the industry’s biggest movers and shakers participating. Celebrities such as Karlie Kloss, Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, Winnie Harlow, Hailey Bieber, and Ashley Graham will film themselves walking the runway at home dressed in statement outfits from their own personal wardrobe, whilst the likes of Virgil Abloh, Alexander Wang, Diane von Furstenberg, and Maria Grazia Chiuri are also set to make special appearances.

The program will also include musical performances as well as messages of gratitude for front line workers. Hair, makeup, and nails will all be styled remotely by Roitfeld and her team. Additionally, the “self-filmed runway” will serve as the second-ever CR Runway; the first took place in Florence, Italy last year.

“I’ve always believed in the power of inspiration — it’s one of the founding reasons behind CR Fashion Book — and I know that we can use the runway to really make a difference. I look forward to your participation in CR Runway with amfAR Against COVID-19 and your help in bringing hope and inspiration to the hard-working scientists and others engaged in this fight,” Roitfeld wrote on the initiative’s dedicated website.

Carine Roitfeld and amfAR’s CR Runway show will be streamed live this Friday, May 1 at 4 p.m. EST (1 p.m. PST) via YouTube and crrunwayxamfar.org.

Roitfeld, along with other creatives involved with “Fashion Unites,” have already made personal donations to the amfAR initiative. To donate yourself to amfAR’s Fund to Fight COVID-19, click the link below.
