The capsule by Cadence is here to make your on-the-go lifestyle more sustainable. The capsule, a reusable container made of recycled plastic, can hold all the stuff you need on a daily basis. Skincare, jewellery, pills, soaps, lotions – you name it, the capsule can hold it.

The capsules are spill and leak-proof, durable, and made from 100% non-leaching and non-absorbing plastic. They’re also dishwasher safe and can be easily cleaned and used again. The capsule’s hexagonal shape and built-in magnets let them snap together as a group. Individual capsules are TSA-compliant, and up to 12 connected capsules can fit in a single quart-sized bag for TSA travel.

Steph Hon, founder and CEO of Cadence, said, “I started Cadence because I needed Cadence – on many gym-to-work mornings, dates, weekend adventures, and a thousand other memories. I was on a climbing trip when I first noticed other people needed a solution: one that was supportive of both the environment and their multiplicity as athlete, urbanite, and individual with a personal care routine.”

The capsules aren’t just practical. They’re also aiming to transform the portable personal care industry by avoiding single-use, disposable plastic containers. “Roughly 9 billion single-use plastic travel bottles and 6 billion silicone travel bottles will end up on beaches and in landfills in our lifetime – and that’s in addition to what’s there now,” explained Cadence. “Together, we can create a movement that not only prevents plastic from entering landfills and beaches, but also cleans up existing waste.”

Cadence partners with Envision Plastics to collect plastic from global beaches and uses that plastic to manufacture its capsules. Currently, the capsules are made from 50% recycled plastics (20% ocean-bound plastic and 30% reused scrap plastic from their own manufacturing). Cadence is striving to raise that percentage to 100 pecernt while maintaining product quality.

Not only are the capsules themselves sustainable, but so is their packaging. All of Cadence’s packaging for the capsules is recyclable – from shipping labels to boxes. Every order includes seed paper, which you can plant to grow wildflowers. And if not planted, the seed paper can be recycled too.

Cadence has also created a closed-loop recycling system for their own products. If for some reason you ever want to dispose of your capsules, cadence provides free return shipping. Then, the company recycles the old capsules into new ones.
