Iconic British fashion house Burberry recently unveiled its Spring/Summer 2022 womenswear collection, Animal Instincts.

However, unlike previous years, the luxury fashion brand chose to present it digitally outside the typical fashion show schedule.

Released after the conclusion of Milan Fashion Week, Burberry’s Spring/Summer 2022 Digital Womenswear Presentation, along with their entire SS22 Animal Instincts collection, was a nod to the company’s newfound commitment to sustainability.

For example, the digital presentation was certified carbon neutral and is part of the brand’s commitment through its Regeneration Fund, which was created in February of last year. The fund was set up to measure and reduce the environmental impact of the brand’s global operations, including their runway events. Burberry also says that the digital presentation was an example of their dedication to supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which work to restore natural habitats and improve carbon capture.

Further, in the presentation, areas of the runway were developed using innovative techniques that highlighted a range of sensory experiences. One room had walls adorned with recycled Burberry trench coats while another used sparkles to create a runway.

Beyond the sustainable components, Burberry’s Spring/Summer 2022 womenswear collection was rife with rebellious, youthful energy in the form of raw hems, abstract patterns, exaggerated details, bold silhouettes, and cropped pieces. Overall, experimental design was at the heart of the collection, evidenced in both the styles of the pieces, as well as the sustainable elements utilized.

Through the debut of their latest collection, Burberry also took the opportunity to provide updates on their climate strategy. For example, they have stated that they are still on track to achieving their goal of being carbon neutral in their own energy use and reaching 100% renewable energy across their operations by 2022. They also reaffirmed their commitment to being climate positive by 2040, going beyond net-zero.
