Bethany Williams has unveiled her Spring Ready-to-Wear 2022 Collection – and it’s made out of textile waste.

The London-based designer is no stranger to eco-conscious materials, having previously created a capsule collection of coats made from wool blankets she’d found at antique markets across the UK.

To bring her spring collection to life, Williams worked with the Magpie Project, a local charity that provides women and children under the age of five with temporary accommodation (Williams has been donating 20% of her company’s profits to them for several seasons now).

Williams also worked closely with illustrator and artist Melissa Kitty Jarram to create a series of storytelling workshops for the families supported by the Magpie Project. These five stories, created in collaboration with Magpie Project families, were called “AOS,” “Blessing,” “Dinosaurs,” and “The Girl Who Cried Tiger,” as well as Williams’ own, “The Sun and The Wind.” It was the childhood stories at the centre of these workshops that inspired Williams’ Spring 2022 collection.

Pieces are adorned with playful, abstract illustrations in vibrant hues of red, yellow, blue, green, and orange. To balance the childlike prints and colours of the clothing, Williams chose to add a more adult element through tailoring. Despite the vivid motifs, items like slim-cut trousers and structured jackets still retain a grown-up feel.

Further, Williams’ Spring RTW 2022 collection marks the UK designer’s first foray into womenswear. The collection features summery dresses and corsets designed with women in mind. Other standouts include crafty knitwear pieces and a pair of flowy, wide-legged pants.
