Apple Afterburner is an accelerator card debuted with Mac Pro. Capable of processing up to 6.3 billion pixels per second, Afterburner enables video editors to decode up to 12 streams of 4K ProRes RAW video simultaneously.

The Intel Xeon processors of up to 28 cores with 64 PCI Express lanes provide over 300W of power.

Mac Pro boasts the “world’s most powerful graphics architecture”. Capable of up to 56 teraflops of graphics performance, graphics options include Radeon Pro 580X, Radeon Pro Vega II and Radeon Pro Vega II Duo.

With Apple MPX Module graphics expansion architecture featuring Thunderbolt integration and over 500W of power, two Radeon Pro Vega II Duos can be fitted for 56 teraflops of graphics performance and 128GB of video memory.

Built around a stainless steel space frame and encased in an aluminum housing that can easily be taken off, the design of Mac Pro is utilitarian. The housing also features a lattice pattern of three-dimensional interlocking hemispheres based on molecular crystal structures for optimal airflow.

“We designed Mac Pro for users who require a modular system with extreme performance, expansion and configurability. With its powerful Xeon processors, massive memory capacity, groundbreaking GPU architecture, PCIe expansion, Afterburner accelerator card and jaw-dropping design, the new Mac Pro is a monster that will enable pros to do their life’s best work,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

Mac Pro is set to become available this autumn.
