Robotics company Robotemi has announced plans at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show to integrate Amazon Alexa with their autonomous robot called temi.

Described as “the first robot that truly interacts with humans while providing flawless autonomous navigation, dynamic video and audio experiences and advanced AI”, temi is a personal assistant robot capable of offering a variety of functions such as hands-free video calling, providing news and weather updates, setting reminders, and more.

“The collaboration with Amazon is a major step up for temi — the Alexa Smart Screen and TV Device SDK will enrich temi with numerous skills, the world’s best natural language processing engine and more, which will take temi to a new level of interactivity, usability, and familiarity,” said CEO of Robotemi Yossi Wolf in a statement.

Utilizing an array of sensors and a proprietary navigation system called Robox, a detailed map of the enviromnent is created to enable temi to autonomously navigate through the layout.

Fitted with a 10.1″ HD LCD touchscreen, 4 Omni-directional digital mics, 1080p@30FPS video camera, speaker system manufactured by Harmon-Kardon, and an operating system “based on Android architecture with proprietary launcher and User Interface”, temi can last up to eight hours on a full charge and is capable of autonomously docking itself to a charging station.

“A few years ago, my life changed,” said Wolf. “I spent an afternoon with my grandmother and noticed how shaky her hands were and how difficult it was for her to hold a cup of tea. I then watched her try to operate her smartphone – she had trouble with that, too. At that moment, I decided to devote my life to creating temi for her. When I realised all the cool things a personal robot can do, I knew I wanted one for myself.”
