At Forbes’ Under 30 Summit in Detroit, a drone design for Uber Eats has been unveiled by Eric Allison, head of Uber Elevate.

Able to carry a meal for two adults, the vertical and horizontal flight-capable drone featuring six rotors has a range of 28 km (18 mi) and an 18-minute flight time.

Using the drone, Uber plans to transport food from restaurants to designated landing locations where an Uber Eats courier will then pick up the food and complete the delivery.

Uber also envisions the drone landing on top of parked Uber Eats courier’s vehicles. With Uber’s Elevate Cloud Systems, the drone will be tracked and guided to its destination.

In summer 2020, test drone deliveries are set to begin in San Diego.
