Known for sustainable footwear made from Merino wool, Allbirds has expanded its offerings to include apparel for both women and men – all responsibly made with natural materials, of course. The four-piece collection consists of the following:
TrinoXO Tee – a super-soft relaxed fit t-shirt, (made from tree fibre, Merino wool and discarded crab shells) with odour minimizing properties meaning it will not require regular washing.
Wool Jumper – a textured crew neck knit made from Merino wool.
Wool Cardi – a relaxed Merino wool cardigan featuring recycled polyester buttons.
Trino Puffer – an animal-friendly puffer jacket, filled with tree fibres and recycled polyester instead of down feathers. It also uses a toxin-free water repellent to protect against the weather.
“The fashion industry has a much bigger problem beyond petroleum-based footwear,” Allbirds says. “Our first step towards a solution is replacing more items in your closet with pieces made from natural materials. We think the future of fashion is one that feels better on you, and on the planet”.
The designs are basic with no frills, choosing to focus on function and comfort rather than aesthetics. However, products with performance and natural materials at their core is what we have come to expect from Allbirds.
The carbon footprint is stated on each product, in line with the Allbirds Carbon Fund. The carbon emissions range from 6.3KG for a tee to 25KG for the puffer jacket and jumper. However, these emissions will be offset after production to ensure every item is completely carbon neutral.
