Embracing the Local Vernacular
Aesop’s Palisades Village store draws its inspiration from the breathtaking natural landscapes that adorn the region. Here, local architecture is a dance of delicacy and balance, with buildings seemingly perched upon the cascading ridges and valleys of this lush terrain. One standout influence on the project is the iconic residence of celebrated architect Ray Kappe—a critical reference that has left an indelible mark on the store’s design.
A Palette of Nature
The store’s aesthetic is firmly rooted in a base of fresh, vibrant green tones and textured materials that pay homage to the verdant surroundings. From the walls to the ceiling and even the floors, microcement envelopes the entire space, creating an earthy, tactile ambiance that beckons exploration.
A grand velvet curtain, akin to a meandering river, gracefully shrouds the rear of the store, concealing inventory storage and utility rooms. Its presence adds an intriguing texture to the space while masterfully modulating the interplay of light and shadow, elevating the store’s materiality.

The various needs for storage and display solutions within the store are ingeniously met with long, horizontal planes made of either reclaimed wood or stainless steel. These elements create a captivating interplay of levity and mass, fostering an atmosphere of both grounding and lightness.
