Located in New York City’s West Village, Acne Studios‘ store at the intersection of 8th Ave and Horatio Street resides in a former dry cleaner and convenience store.
Designed by Sophie Hicks Architects, the store features an interior with stainless-steel walls, shelves and clothing racks that are illuminated with a soft light.
When designing the store, Sophie Hicks Architects stated that the low internal ceiling heights were a hurdle to overcome.
“Our challenge was to turn the potentially negative attributes of the building into an opportunity to create a dramatic exterior that improves the street scene, and a store that feels spacious,” said Sophie Hicks Architects.
To do so, the lighting comes in the form of wall-mounted lightboxes and the air conditioning is ducted behind.
“This project is an exercise in fulfilling the character and ethos of the Acne brand identity,” added Sophie Hicks Architects. “Providing a slick and cool space while retaining a feeling of comfort and reassurance for the customer.”
