Founded by sisters Bec Nolan and Cass Moase, along with photographer Ali Mitton, Velvet Canyon is the latest sustainable eyewear brand you need to keep an eye on. Based between Byron Bay, Australia and Los Angeles, California, the label aims to create eyewear that not only has a forever appeal but is additionally planet-friendly.
For its latest collection dubbed “Fever Dream,” Velvet Canyon offers up 12 new silhouettes, all inspired by the eclectic energy of the 60s and 70s. Soft lines, retro aesthetics, and sensual design motifs are seen throughout the Italian-designed frames. Elevating each frame is custom tinted, 100% UV protection lenses and champagne gold detailing for that ultimate vintage-meets-modern vibe.
Noteworthy silhouettes in the range include the rectangular Zou Bisou, which is a go-to choice for Hailey Baldwin, the retro-inspired Fever Dream, and the cat-eyed Femme Chat. For those looking for a daintier feel, Cigarello and The Poet are the perfect options with their minimal frames.
To keep things fresh and modern, Velvet Canyon offers up a colour palette of peachy and natural tones for its frames. Mixed in are solid colours, classic tortoiseshell prints, and fun yet understated patterns.
Each pair of sunglasses in Velvet Canyon’s collection are cruelty-free and vegan. The frames are produced from acetate, which is a renewable material derived from cotton and wood pulp. And to further push its sustainability efforts, the label never uses any polybags, plastic protective sleeves, or bubble wrap for its packaging. Instead, Velvet Canyon packages its products in a biodegradable vegan “leather” pouch along with a cream card box that is perfect for repurposing.
