At 2019 Tokyo Motor Show’s FUTURE EXPO exhibition, Japanese automobile company Toyota has unveiled the Ultra-compact BEV (battery electric vehicle).
The Ultra-compact BEV is designed for short-distances on narrow city roads.
Capable of a range of approximately 100 km (62 mi) on a single charge, the max speed is 60 km/h (37 mph).
Featuring two seats, Toyota says that the Ultra-compact BEV is tailored for the elderly, newly licensed drivers and business-people.
“We want to create a mobility solution that can support Japan’s ageing society and provide freedom of movement to people at all stages of life,” said Akihiro Yanaka, head of development at Toyota. “With the Ultra-compact BEV, we are proud to offer customers a vehicle that not only allows for greater autonomy, but also requires less space, creates less noise and limits environmental impact.”
“We will establish a system to make it easy for people to use compact battery electric vehicles and further spread their use. We will not only sell them, but also lease them, enable battery reuse and provide services such as insurance,” added Akihiro.
In addition to the standard Ultra-compact BEV, Toyota has unveiled the business concept model that is capable of serving as a mobile office with three modes of support for travelling, working and rest.
Toyota has also unveiled three Walking Area BEVs. Similar to a segway, the Walking Area BEV Standing Type is made for tasks such as patrolling.
The Walking Area BEV Seated Type operates as a standard mobility scooter.
Designed for manual wheelchair users, the Walking Area BEV Wheelchair-linked Type enables motorized electric power.
