Hungarian designer S Mate Olah of Studio 56 Hours has partnered with Rotterdam-based company PLASTICIET to create a stool made entirely from plastic waste.

More specifically, discarded polycarbonate moulds sourced from a chocolate factory were shredded, melted, and compressed into solid sheets by PLASTICIET, which were then made into the OO stool.

“What they do at Plasticiet is changing the perspective on how we can reuse plastic,” says Olah. “They do this by showing the beauty of what is considered a single-use material. A recycled basis offering you to make the things your mind allows you to imagine, wrapped in gorgeous patterns.”

Previously, Olah created the original OO stool out of bamboo plywood boards. By using contemporary CNC technology to cut the boards, negative space and waste are reduced. In addition, Japanese joinery negates the need for any screws, nails, or glue.
