Designed to be a sustainable alternative to conventional electric humidifiers, the Coarse Pottery Air-Humidifier utilizes the qualities of terracotta clay to moisten air without the need for any electrical components or energy.

The Coarse Pottery Air-Humidifier was created by Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts students Hou Haibo, Feng Jijie, Luo Li and Yang Ruibingin in collaboration with Shenzhen Changsen Trading Company designers.

Because terracotta clay is intrinsically porous, durable, easy to mould and commonly found, it has long been used throughout history to create flower pots, cooking vessels, roof tiles, dinnerware, and more.

Resembling a radiator, water added in the basin of the Coarse Pottery Air-Humidifier gradually rises and evaporates through tiny cavities.

“Its beautiful and rhythmic wave-like surface form can increase the evaporation area of water to moisten the whole indoor environment,” says the design team. “On this basis, The Coarse Pottery Air-Humidifier blends in with the tone of culturally rich interiors as an elegant accessory in the interior.”
