When I was notified that the team at SURI had launched the 2.0 version of their B-Corp-certified electric toothbrush, I was genuinely surprised. Having received the 1.0 version last year and used it daily ever since, I found myself wondering: How could the SURI team improve on something that was already so impressive? It was a top-of-the-line toothbrush — sleek, sustainable, and effective — and I couldn’t imagine what could possibly be upgraded.
In this article, I explore how the new SURI 2.0 compares to its predecessor — what’s new, what’s improved, and ultimately, whether the upgrade is worth it.
The visuals
From the outside, the SURI 1.0 and 2.0 toothbrush designs are identical. I guess don’t fix something that ain’t broken.
The inner workings
Both the 1.0 and 2.0 models deliver 33,000 sonic vibrations per minute and offer a one-month battery life per charge. This means both models offer similar brush performance.
One key difference is that the 2.0 features a built-in pressure sensor with haptic feedback, helping users maintain an optimal brushing technique.
The charging
For the 2.0, a new weighted wireless charge stand was introduced. The 1.0 had a wired charging option only.
The case
This is where I was most impressed. The 1.0 version case was fine, but the new 2.0 version is much more refined with round edges. Both travel cases feature built-in charging capability and UV-C light that kills 99.9% of bacteria.
Conclusion
The SURI 1.0 was already a fantastic product, so making improvements upon it is no easy task. The new 2.0 version is better overall in terms of design for its case and charging stand, but customers should note that it is more expensive and brushing performance for both versions is pretty much the same.
