A limited-edition collection of t-shirts has been launched by British fashion designer Stella McCartney to raise money for charity.

Each of the graphic t-shirts takes inspiration from one letter in McCartney’s A to Z Manifesto that the British fashion house published this past fall. According to McCartney, the framework serves as a roadmap of who they are as a brand and where they want to go in the future. Each letter represents a different word or phrase that reflects their values. Many of these words or phrases relate to sustainability, such as Z for Zero Waste, V for Vegan, O for Organic, and R for Repurpose.

McCartney’s A to Z Manifesto is presented on the brand’s website as an alphabetized and stylized map, a collaboration between herself and 26 global artists. Each artist was asked to pick a letter and then given free rein to visualize it.

Some of the works that was created for the manifesto, which ranges from photography to paintings, adorn the t-shirts of McCartney’s charity collection.

In fact, seven of the designs from the A to Z Manifesto have been selected to be featured on the t-shirts. The featured artists are Cindy Sherman, Olafur Eliasson, Jeff Koons, Rashid Johnson, George Condo, Ed Ruscha, and Hajime Sorayama. Beyond having their design featured on the garments, these artists were also invited to choose a cause in line with their environmental and ethical values for the t-shirts to benefit.

The collection is being released in two drops. The first took place on December 3 and included the t-shirts representing E, G, and X. Cindy Sherman designed E for Effortless and it features a woodland fairy posed in such a way that its body forms the letter “E.” Her chosen charity was Planned Parenthood.

X is for Kiss was brought to life by Ed Ruscha, known for his pop art, with proceeds going towards the Mojave Desert Land Trust Seed Bank. Finally, G for Grateful also dropped, this one designed by American contemporary artist George Condo, with funds being allocated to Conservation International.

The second drop is expected to come in January 2021, with featured letters A, K, O, and S. The artists and charities for these letters will include Rashid Johnson for the 14+ Foundation, Jeff Koons for the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, Olafur Eliasson (charity TBD), and Hajime Sorayama for Médecins Sans Frontières Japan.

Each Stella McCartney A to Z Manifesto t-shirt retails for $595 USD, and just 30 of each style were created (each labelled 1 to 30). The t-shirts have been made exclusively out of organic cotton and all packaging is recyclable and renewable.
