What is San Francisco known for? Tourists would say the Golden Gate Bridge, colourful painted ladies houses, and the joy-filled rides on quaint cable cars. Photographer Kelsey McClellan would say weirdly shaped trees and bushes.

Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, McClellan notes how when she moved to San Francisco’s Outer Sunset neighbourhood, she immediately noticed the number of oddly shaped foliage that lined the streets. “I love how much personality they have and how they interact with their nearby house,” says McClellan. “So much of their shape is determined by the personality of the owner or just how the elements have influenced them over time.”

Being a photographer, it was natural for McClellan to begin capturing the greenery and sharing them on the internet. “People seem to love them as much as I do! I’m drawn to trees that also pair well with their house/environment and I think others respond to that as well,” explains McClellan. “I look for beautiful tree shapes and great color combinations.”
