Since its inception in 2012, Rothy’s has made a name for itself as a women’s footwear brand that creates stylish, eco-friendly shoes made out of recycled plastic bottles.

Recently, they decided to expand their offerings by launching the brand’s first-ever men’s collection – and like their women’s collection, it’s sustainable.

To introduce consumers to the new and improved Rothy’s, they released two men’s styles: The RS01 Sneaker and The Driving LoaferRothy’s claims that with the release of their new men’s collection, they have achieved an industry first: men’s shoes that are stylish, comfortable, intentional, and free of waste.

Both men’s styles are made from 100% recyclable materials, are machine washable, and promise zero break-in period.

More specifically, Rothy’s new everyday sneaker, the RS01 Sneaker, and their casual summer shoe, the Driving Loafer, were each knit using plastic bottles in the brand’s own factory. The 100% knit that the shoes were created out of is washable, flexible, and durable.

In fact, Rothy’s research and development team washed each pair of shoes 60 times to ensure they remained durable. They also employed a unique knit-to-shape technique, which saves 30% material waste compared to traditional cut-and-sew methods (the former method also results in a “worn in” feel, which is why Rothy’s shoes don’t require further breaking in).

Another impressive statistic is that only 1% waste was generated in the creation of the shoes’ uppers. (When compared to the 54% waste that a traditional leather shoe creates, on average, this is a major feat).

Finally, due to the sustainable materials and production methods used, Rothy’s men’s styles ultimately have a carbon footprint that is 75% smaller than the industry average.

Both the RS01 Sneaker and Driving Loafer are available in several colourways. The German Army Trainer-inspired sneaker comes in neutral hues of white, bone, olive, and black, while the loafer, a throwback to the original driving loafers of the ‘60s, comes in black, forest camo, and desert camo.
