German sportswear giant PUMA has teamed up with Japanese streetwear imprint WIND AND SEA, founded by respected photographer Takashi Kumagai, on a collaborative range that’s not only stylish but also eco-friendly.
The upcoming collection is inspired by “retro utilitarianism and space” and is comprised of minimalist separates, such as a hoodie, T-shirt, long-sleeve top, and shorts, along with footwear. Each apparel item is constructed from organic and unbleached cotton, which in turn eliminates the need for bleach and dyes. Without the need for bleaching agents and dyes, the water consumption during the production phase can be drastically reduced and thus helps to create a more eco-friendly manufacturing process.
The creamy white pullover hoodie, relaxed T-shirt, long-sleeved top, and boxy shorts all feature PUMA and WIND AND SEA co-branding. One includes PUMA’s insignia above “WIND AND SEA” verbiage, whilst the other spotlights large “WIND AND SEA” branding with PUMA’s “Ralph Sampson” scribbled across in cursive. Each co-branding is printed in special reflective ink, that follows in Kumagai’s signature design ethos.
Moving on to the footwear, PUMA’s Ralph Sampson sneaker receives a luxurious off-white suede makeover, with matching tonal suede overlays. The collaborative model is then elevated with an icy translucent PUMA stripe logo with exposed stitching on the lateral walls, and embossed “WIND AND SEA” emblems situated on the heel and embroidered on the tongue tabs. Final details include “PUMA” branding on the midsole, and “Ralph Sampson” stitched into the mid-panels.
The WIND AND SEA x PUMA collaborative collection is set to release on July 25 via PUMA Japan’s website and WIND AND SEA’s online store. The apparel items will be priced between ¥7,150 JPY to ¥14,300 JPY (approximately $90 CAD to $180 CAD). Pricing for the WIND AND SEA x PUMA Ralph Sampson sneaker has yet to be released.
