A portable colour inkjet printer for smartphones called PrintBrush XDR has been developed by Sweden based company PrintDreams.

Featuring PrintDreams’ RMP technology, the PrintBrush XDR is able to print in full colour on a variety of surfaces and is designed to enable users to “go paperless” and “truly mobile”.

By moving the PrintBrush XDR in a sweeping motion, text and images can be printed instantaneously on materials such as wood, metal, plastic, fabrics, and more.

“As the user slides the PrintBrush XDR across a surface, an optical sensor tracks the velocity and direction of the printer relative to the surface,” explained PrintDreams. “A controller matches the software interrupts to the relevant columns of the imprint image.”

“Thanks to built-in sensors and intelligent software, the imprint will always be correct independently of the direction or the speed of a user’s hand movement. You can go as slow or as fast as you want. You can even stop in the middle of the printout: the PrintBrush XDR delivers accurate and reliable results.”

Wirelessly connecting the PrintBrush XDR to a smartphone app, the contents can be selected to print. The PrintBrush XDR also work as a stand-alone, untethered device as long as images have been saved onto the device.

The industrial design of PrintBrush XDR is sleek, minimalistic, simplistic, and lacking “any superfluous elements”.

“The idea was to create a design that fits perfectly into the palm of your hand,” said PrintDreams. “The industrial design defined the size of all the internal components. It was a huge challenge, but we are proud to have achieved our goal.”
