Just in time for the incoming colder temperatures, fashion brand PANGAIA has introduced PANettle, a plant-based peppermint oil-treated denim capsule created with naturally regenerative wild Himalayan nettle and organic cotton.
According to PANGAIA, roughly 3,700 litres of water is required to create a single pair of jeans. That’s equivalent to the amount of water an average person would drink in 3.5 years. So what is the cause for the immense water usage? It’s because denim is made from conventional cotton. PANGAIA notes that cotton is a fibre that is heavily irrigated and fertilized, in addition to requiring more water for manufacturing, dyeing, washing and packaging.
Not only that, PANGAIA stresses that dependency on cotton contributes to monocropping, which leads to reduced local biodiversity and weakened soil that lacks nutrients.
This is why PANGAIA says that they are committing to creating products with a more diverse range of materials.
One such material PANGAIA is utilizing is wild Himalayan nettle. Found growing in abundance in the Himalayan mountain forests, the naturally regenerative resource helps protect against landslides with its roots and also supports local farmers who harvest during their off-season.
