NETTE, which recently launched, is the candle company of your dreams. This New York City-based brand was founded by Carol Han Pyle, after she noticed a gap in the market for sustainable candles that used natural ingredients and responsible packaging.
Each and every one of the label’s candles are made up of a non-toxic, coconut-soy wax blend mixed with fragrances that contain no synthetic ingredients. In fact, NETTE has published a huge (over 30 items long) “No List” on their website, outlining all of the harmful ingredients you won’t ever find in one of their candles. Items on the list include acetone, coal tar, parabens, mineral oil, formaldehyde, petroleum, sulfates SLS and SLES, and phthalates, among many others.
According to NETTE, each of the ingredients on their “No List” should never be anywhere near a candle, and their promise to the consumer is that just as they say a resounding “no” to these ingredients now, they will continue to do so in the future.
Further, wicks are made from 100% certified organic cotton, NETTE is 100% vegan and cruelty-free, and they are fully transparent, both about the ingredients their candles contain and where the candles are made. (Each candle is hand-poured in a family-owned factory in Italy.)
NETTE’s sustainability mission extends all the way to its packaging. Their eco-friendly packaging includes boxes made out of recycled shoe boxes and vegetable-based ink.
Finally, NETTE is committed to “NETTE Zero” emissions, otherwise known as having no carbon footprint. In order to make this a reality, they have partnered with multiple organizations, including 1% For the Planet and Ecologi. They donate 1 percent of their annual revenue to a variety of environmentally-focused charities through 1% For the Planet.
Meanwhile, thanks to their partnership with Ecologi, a tree is planted every single time an order is placed on the NETTE website. The reason behind this partnership is because NETTE wants to offset their carbon footprint associated with both the production and shipping of their products. Ecologi helps them be as close to carbon-neutral as possible, and maintain a Climate Positive Workforce.
Candle scents range from Spring 1998 (a floral scent with notes of freesia, orange flower, and magnolia) to Laide Tomate (featuring notes of cucumber, fresh citrus, violet leaf, and basil). NETTE candles are available on their website and can be shipped anywhere in the United States. They retail for $68 USD each.
