The Hubble Space Telescope has taken a 665 million pixel image of the Triangulum Galaxy.

Revealing 10-15 million stars spread over a 19,400 light-years wide region, the image was conceived by stitching together 54 individual images taken by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope’s Advanced Camera for Surveys.

Located approximately three million light-years away from Earth, the Triangulum Galaxy can be seen with the naked eye under optimal dark sky conditions and is the third largest galaxy in the Local Group, after the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Galaxy.

Also known as Messier 33, or NGC 598, the Triangulum Galaxy is comprised of an abundance of gas and dust that shows evidence of star formations at a rate of one solar mass every two years.
