Founded by Paletta Matievna, Cyka does not shy away from bold pieces. Asymmetric crops, strategically-placed cutouts and micro skirts are just a few of the design choices that the Montréal-based fashion brand embraces.

When asked to describe the brand, “independence, mystic and serene” were Matievna’s words of choice. Inspired by the vastness of the universe, she integrates her love for fashion with all things intergalactic. There is certainly an out-of-this-world appeal that draws buyers into the world that Matievna has created; we are beckoned in with dreamy, distorted images, each one featuring a unique, often distressed piece by the designer.

Originally focused on womenswear, recent collections have expanded to include more androgynous pieces and feature male models. However, true to even its earliest crop tops and dresses, comfort does not have to be sacrificed for style; Matievna continues to incorporate stretchy fabrics in her designs.

Matievna’s most recent drop is called “Revividus,” alluding to a rebirth. The collection features her signature two-piece sets and dresses in addition to swimwear. A line of shoes and a showroom are the next expansions that Cyka hopes to undertake.

Aside from being distinctive by design, each piece is hand-made, meaning that buyers will never find a piece quite like theirs. Sample sales, where buyers can get their hands on one-of-one pieces, add to the rare experience that is purchasing from Cyka.

The brand’s production cycle is relatively slow, intentionally so. It can take anywhere from two to four weeks to receive your items, owing to the fact that they are made by demand. Each order arrives with detailed care instructions and a thank-you note, making for a special experience from start to finish.
