In an ode to the label’s upcycling heritage, French luxury fashion house MM6 Maison Margiela is set to release a range of upcycled patchwork items for its latest sustainability push.
Acting as part of Maison Margiela’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection, the limited-edition MM6 Upcycled Patchwork capsule will include some of the label’s iconic pieces and footwear silhouettes, such as the triangular Japanese tote bag and signature cylindrical-heeled 6 boot, along with a range of accessories made over in patchwork iterations.
With sustainability at the forefront, each item in the special capsule has been skillfully constructed out of swatches of surplus fabrics and leftover materials sourced from previous seasons. Spotlighting Maison’s impeccable detail to handcrafting, each piece of material, which would otherwise have been destroyed, has been preserved, trimmed, and lovingly reassembled to recreate MM6’s classics.
For the range of footwear, oblong patches of nubuck, Nappa, suede, and calf leather form the signature 6 Heel boot, along with an asymmetrical open-toed mule and flat sandals. The offering sticks to a natural colour palette of beige, alabaster, cream, chestnut brown, and various shades of tan. Elevating each look is simple stitch detailing throughout. Each item has also been interpreted in hues of greys, blacks, and graphite.
On the other hand, swatches of suede, grained and smooth calf leather are used to create the Japanese bag, which arrives in black, white, or nude variants. Additionally, a textile iteration made from canvas, nylon, velvet, and high-gloss PVC will also be on offer.
In addition to shoes and accessories, the upcycled collection will also feature clothing. And due to the irregularities that are naturally inherent to the patchwork technique, along with the limited nature of fabrics used, each item will be unique, ensuring customers they will receive a one-of-a-kind MM6 Maison Margiela product.
MM6 Maison Margiela’s limited-edition “Upcycled Patchwork” capsule will release on January 15, 2021, at MM6 boutiques, online, and select retailers worldwide.
