As fashion lovers continue to look for more eco-friendly labels that are pushing the boundaries of design, up-and-coming brand MASHAT, helmed by Tasha Labunskaya and Masha Varfolomeyeva, has been making waves as of late.

Although MASHAT has yet to break into the mainstream limelight, the independent Ukraine-based, sustainable label has started popping up on many people’s radar, especially after the release of its “DNA” collection that utilizes repurposed wires.

Designed to span both the Fall/Winter 2020 and Spring/Summer 2021 seasons, the range comprises of essentials that include perfect layering options such as a checkered coat and tailored blazer to must-have items including a textured bodysuit and voluminous balloon skirt. Mixed in-between are stirrup leggings, maxi dresses, airy blouses, and graphic pants.

Most noteworthy, pieces in the “DNA” collection are inspired by the helical structure of the hereditary material found within all of us and can be seen spotlighted throughout. Repurposed flat wires and recycled cables are used to create spiral straps on dresses, while jewellery reminiscent of telephone cords, such as chokers, bracelets, and key chains, have also been crafted. Even the blazer encapsulates the DNA theme and has been designed with removable sleeves that can be zipped on or off in a helix shape.

Through fashion, MASHAT aims to reduce the pressure placed on our planet by continuing to use recycled and repurposed materials in its designs.
