Luxury Spanish fashion house LOEWE has launched a limited-edition elephant bag as part of their third annual collaboration with wildlife charity Knot On My Planet (KOMP).
Named after the adage that tying a knot ensures you remember, and that an “elephant never forgets”, KOMP works to secure a future for elephants by creating charity collaborations with fashion houses and luxury brands.
The mini Elephant bag, one of LOEWE’s signature styles, is entirely crafted from Kenyan Shuka; a bright checked textile that is traditionally used by the Kenyan Maasai tribes to create shawls. It features a tasselled strap, handwoven by the Samburu Trust; an artisan collective of women based in Northern Kenya.
In addition, the eye-catching red and blue print pays homage to the Samburu’s relationship to their natural environment and way of life – red to signify the blood of their cattle, blue for the sky and white for their cow’s milk.
Launched with a limited release of 300 units; 100% of the proceeds from sales will be donated to the Elephant Crisis Fund – a joint initiative of Save the Elephants and the Wildlife Conservation Network. These organizations are striving to safeguard the future of the African elephant, and together, their ongoing work is helping to protect these majestic animals and their natural habitat.
