Specializing in “music, food and drink in the company of friends, strangers and new comrades”, Locura is a casual Latin American diner and cocktail bar located in the coastal town of Byron Bay, Australia.
Featuring minimalistic, clean, and modern decor, the venue is designed by an Australia-based studio called Pattern. The interior has been described by the studio as being imbued with Locura’s ethos.
“Tactile materials bring warmth, texture, and colour to the largely undecorated space,” said Pattern studio. “The physical setting of the bar doesn’t compete to command the attention of patrons, but happily dissolves into the background; supporting and facilitating an experience that feels laid back but special, and a little different to other venues in the area.
With the menu inspired by a mixture of Mexican, Costa Rican and Peruvian cuisine, dishes such as fried corn, chickpeas, oysters, ceviches, tacos and salads alongside house-made fermented hot sauces, rubs and salsas are served.
“Let us evoke the madness within, with flavours from “ The Americas” and far distant lands,” said Locura. “There is a hint of Locura at the heart and soul of any memorable or delicious experience.”
With a max capacity of 350 people, Locura says that the venue is perfect for functions and events. Stating how there is a strong emphasis on the music, the venue is fitted with a retro Horn and amp hi-fi system called Klipschorn to “recreate the experience of a live performance as dynamically and vividly as possible”.
The drink menu consists of Mezcal based mules with kombucha, Michelada, homemade Tepache, South American wines, local and international beers by the bottle, and more. There is also beer on tap showcasing Australia’s finest craft beer and ciders.
