LG Electronics, a global innovator, has marked a significant milestone in the United States by opening its first factory dedicated to assembling electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Nestled in Fort Worth, Texas, this new facility is set to play a pivotal role in creating job opportunities and supporting the expansion of America’s EV charging infrastructure.
The inauguration of the factory witnessed Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker and other officials cutting the ribbon, alongside senior executives from LG Electronics, including Alec Jang, President of the LG Electronics Business Solutions Company, H.K. Suh, head of LG’s EV Charging business division, and Nicolas Min, President of LG Business Solutions USA.
President Jang emphasized the importance of the EV charger business for LG’s future, positioning it as a growth engine that aligns with the company’s transformation into a smart solutions provider. He expressed LG’s commitment to leveraging the reliability and quality of its chargers, maintenance services, and sales capabilities to become a global leader in the EV charging industry.
Fort Worth Mayor Parker hailed the momentous occasion, recognizing LG’s longstanding presence in the community and the significance of establishing the U.S. manufacturing base for EV chargers. She highlighted the pride of knowing that LG’s advanced EV charging stations destined for deployment across the United States would be manufactured locally in Fort Worth.
The U.S. EV charger production factory boasts an annual capacity exceeding 10,000 units, initially occupying 60,000 square feet with room for expansion as the business grows. Operating on 100 percent green power, this plant builds on LG’s three-decade history as a corporate citizen in Fort Worth, reinforcing the company’s commitment to the region as an innovation and manufacturing hub.
LG’s investment in Fort Worth is expected to bring dozens of new tech jobs to North Texas, aligning with its vision of supporting the electrification of America. The factory will focus on producing Level 2 and Level 3 EV chargers, catering to the increasing demand for charging infrastructure to support the rising number of electric vehicles on the roads.
Michael Kosla, Senior Vice President of LG Business Solutions USA, highlighted the significance of these chargers, which empower businesses, municipalities, and public places to set their own rates, generate revenue, and meet local demands. The first products rolling off the assembly line are Level 2 AC Chargers with load management solutions and variable current settings.
Looking ahead, LG’s Fort Worth plant is set to assemble Level 3 DC Chargers starting in the second quarter, offering fast charging up to 175kW through CCS1 and NACS connectors. These chargers will feature innovative outdoor LCD touch-screen displays, providing multifunctionality for various owners and use cases, including ad sales to generate extra revenue.
