Andy Bauch is a Los Angeles based artist who uses LEGO Bricks as his medium to create colourful pixelated artworks.

At a pop-up exhibition held at the Castelli Art Space in LA, Bauch showcased his newest series titled New Money where each LEGO artwork on display has a hidden code where if decoded, it would reveal the private keys to cryptocurrency wallets.

“I am attempting to help those without computer science backgrounds visualise and understand the rather abstract concept of cryptocurrencies and simultaneous democratising the potential and volatility that comes along with them,” explained Bauch.

To create the LEGO artworks, Bauch fed the private keys into an algorithm to generate a pattern then made alterations to the algorithm to create a visually appealing image.

At the time of the exhibition, the artworks were worth $10,000 USD in various cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Litecoin, Cannabiscoin, Swagbucks, and Dogecoin. Since the cryptomarket is volatile, the value of the cryptocurrencies will fluctuate and to reflect this, Bauch has set up a live feed to project the current value of the LEGO artwork’s cryptocurrencies.
