A collection of winter outerwear insulated with polyester fibres sourced from discarded plastic bottles has been created by Canadian clothing brand Frank And Oak.
“Striving for a sustainable future starts with the choices we make today,” said Frank And Oak. “As the climate crisis deepens, we must rethink the way we consume and produce for the preservation of our planet and its natural systems.”
“Make this last means making durable winter outerwear with an extended lifespan, preventing resource depletion through the increased use of recycled materials, and focusing on high-performance features adapted for Canadian winters,” added Frank And Oak.
By using polyester fibre as an alternative to down, the outerwear collection is animal-free. Frank And Oak says that polyester fibre is equally as warm and comfortable as natural down. An added benefit includes the retention of insulating properties when wet.
Polyester yarn made from worn garments can also be found in the lining.
The collection includes the Expedition puffer, Hygge puffer, Alpine parka and Capital series.
