Simon Porte Jacquemus has never been one to shy away from pushing the boundaries of creative expression. With his last show, “Le Meunier” at the Palais de Tokyo in 2019, Jacquemus amused and surprised his guests by sending invitations in the disguise of French baguettes, before offering breakfast at the show. To celebrate his label’s 10 year anniversary, Jacquemus led a group of models down a bright pink runway, set against a field of lavender in Valensole, Provence.

For the latest show entitled “L’Amour”, Jacquemus has continued to highlight his innovative style and fascination with nature by presenting his SS21 collection in a field of wheat, all while following COVID-19 social distancing guidelines set by authorities in France. Jacquemus was born into a family of farmers, so the show brings back the fields of his childhood.

“But what’s so beautiful about L’Amour is how it can endure – sometimes even grow stronger – in the absence of people being together,” Jacquemus wrote on Instagram.

The show was impressively executed, with the audience facing the runway that ran in a curved line through the wheat field. Glasses of champagne and figs were handed out by staff in gloves and masks, adding to the glamour. The show had A Midsummer Night’s Dream element, both mesmerizing and inspiring the audience that was made up of roughly 100 guests.

The models exhibited both menswear and womenswear in natural hues that complimented the environmental surroundings. Unlike the SS20 season that showed bright colours, the SS21 selection focuses on khaki, white, black and sand. Models walked confidently down the runway in retro patterns and deconstructed linens. Like many of his previous shows, Jacquemus included models that were an eclectic range of sizes and races. His popular bags were shown with a strawberry punnet and picnic plate holder, adding to the summery vibe.

In the words of Jacquemus, “With this smaller collection, presented mainly to our family and friends, we bring our interior worlds out into the open, interpreting the humble fabrics and objects we live with that have their own poems to tell. Within the home, L’Amour reveals itself in small wonders.”
