Sustainability and climate control have undoubtedly been on the minds of many over the past couple of years. As we continue to search for new ways to establish and elevate our own skincare routines, there is an ever-growing list of available products that not only take care of your face, hair, and body but also attempt to keep sustainability in mind, too.
With clean, natural, and organic products directing the conversation in recent months, UK-based label Haeckels, founded by Dom Bridges, has managed to turn seaweed into a luxury beauty product.
Now the Bridges-helmed label is expanding its lauded lineup with a revolutionary new skincare line made with new grown-to-order technology. Haeckels’ latest initiative begins with the Bio Restore Membrane: a biodegradable under-eye mask. The eye mask features a special formula designed to help plump and hydrate the skin below the eyes, all of which is held within an agar membrane grown by the brand itself.
Seaweed, of course, plays a key part in the creation of the eye masks. The membrane’s agar is extracted from the cell walls of the seaweed, before being cultivated in-house for three weeks.
During this time, the ultra-hydrating jellied seaweed is infused with Haeckels’ nourishing and hydrating formula derived from the ocean, which includes Lupin to renew the skin’s outer layer, Euphrasia to help prevent sun damage, Eleutherococcus senticosus to increase collagen production, hyaluronic acid to plump the skin, aloe vera for its anti-inflammatory properties, and witch hazel to help soothe the skin. The all-natural 10-minute treatment also helps with getting rid of dark circles.
In order to activate the eye mask’s biomembrane, customers simply need to just add warm water to the product in the Petri dish that comes with the purchase. By making the product grown-to-order, Haeckels can ensure that everything it creates will be used.
When a set of eye masks are used up, customers can order a new batch that arrives in a compostable glassine sack, which eliminates the need for additional packaging. Completely compostable with zero plastic and zero waste, the Bio Restore Membrane contributes to the natural and eco-friendly skincare market.
Customers can also track the life of their unique facemask with weekly email updates from the Haeckels team that let them know when the membrane has been created and how it is growing.
Along with hand harvesting seaweed, the base ingredient for its whole product lineup, Haeckels has conceived innovative packaging made from Mycelium and seed paper to help combat the dire plastic problem, while contributing to our planet’s biosphere. The brand also dispatches its products via carbon-neutral shipping.
Haeckels’ large product offerings include skincare, body and hair, perfume, candles, home fragrances, shaving tools, vegan soap bars, and skin and hair mixology sets made with essential oils.
