Back in September, Italian fashion house Gucci and American activewear brand The North Face announced their first-ever partnership. Finally, the two global brands have unveiled their collab collection.

The #TheNorthFacexGucci collection is made up of a mixture of men’s and women’s ready to wear clothing and shoes, as well as luggage and camping gear, including tents and sleeping bags.

In regards to clothing, the collection features padded down coats, bomber jackets, puffer vests, skirts, blouses, t-shirts, windbreakers, and jumpsuits. In true Gucci style, many of the pieces feature youthful, vibrant colours and motifs made up of the brands’ repeating logos.

According to Gucci, the collection takes inspiration from the 1970s, an era evoked in the promotional photos and videos that have been published. The campaign was set in the Alps and reflects the early years of The North Face, which was founded in 1966 in San Francisco.

Further, in line with the ‘70s vibe of the collection, the colour palette was born out of The North Face’s materials library. These archival fabrics were upcycled and partially incorporated into the collection in order to give them a second life.

Both the outwear and camping equipment featured in the collection are based on original designs from The North Face that date back to the ‘70s.

Meanwhile, the luggage is a major standout owing to new graphic patterns that were created to adorn it. Luggage ranges from backpacks to on-trend belt bags and everything was created with a bold motif and the new The North Face x Gucci logo. Every piece of luggage in the luxe collection contains Econyl, a nylon fabric made out of regenerated materials such as carpets, fishnets, and other scraps.

The opposite of the over-the-top luggage items is a gender-neutral hiking boot in three shades of leather: brown, cream, and black.

Finally, the collection strove to make their packaging as sustainable as possible. All paper and cardboard are sourced from sustainably managed forests, and the paper is uncoated which makes it fully recyclable. Boxes feature handles to avoid the use of shopping bags. Finally, larger items are packaged in shopping bags and cotton covers without a box at all.

#TheNorthFacexGucci collection will debut at a Gucci Pin pop-up store in Beijing on December 29, 2020. Thereafter, it will be rolled out in Gucci stores in China, and then in January, Gucci stores in other countries around the world. A limited selection from the line will also be available on Gucci’s website.
