This Toronto-based organization seeks to implement environmentally conscious recycling methods in all Canadian hair salons.

In light of the sustainability movement, many have become aware that beauty disposal is a large contributor to carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. Since 2009, Green Circle Salons has found unique and effective ways to reduce excess hair waste.

Green Circle Salons has saved approximately 17,00,000 pounds of hair waste from landfills. This was achieved by spreading awareness and gaining credibility through B Corp and Carbon Trust certifications. With a completely transparent collective waste process, Green Circle prioritizes reusability and sustainability before convenience.

The recycling process begins with leftover hair and material collection and ends in saved resources and energy. While most salons waste their leftover products, Green Circle Salons seeks unique ways to reuse them.

Each participating salon receives collection bins on a frequent basis for their leftover products. Collected waste options include leftover hair, dye, metals, and more. This waste is then shipped in containers and brought to a wide variety of clean energy producers. Facilities include bio-composite centers and energy renewal services.

Green Circle Salons lives up to extremely high standards. Accordingly, 95% of product waste that the organization collects is recycled and reused. For example, leftover hair colours and dyes are divided into oil and water, which can be brought back into clean water, or used for fuel. This serves as a huge success for sustainable salons and beauty vendors across Canada.

With over 15,000 members involved, Green Circles Salons continues to promote sustainability in Canada.
