Sustainable fashion is all the rage right now, but it is still far less prevalent than fast-fashion retailers, making it difficult to find. Luckily, GALERIE.LA is making shopping for eco-friendly items easier than ever before thanks to its online retail platform.

Through GALERIE.LA’s website, consumers can shop for sustainable fashion and accessories from brands all over the world. “Our team is committed to scouting the most intriguing designers who use sustainable production methods to reduce their environmental footprint while taking the ethical business practices necessary to benefit people and communities,” GALERIE.LA says. “Our mission is to work as a community, building a platform devoted to the highest quality of sustainable fashion.”

That is why the LA-based brand has a badge system on their website. How it works is that every item on GALERIE.LA has a badge (or badges) in the description to explain to consumers exactly what they’re buying. There are six different badges to signify each of the following: ethical, local, eco-friendly, artisanal, recycled, and vegan. The ethical badge means that the item was made using fair trade practices, such as fair wages and safe conditions for workers.

The local badge means that the item was designed and produced within its country of origin (this also means it will likely have a lower carbon footprint due to reduced transportation). The eco-friendly badge means that the item was made with environmentally conscious materials and production methods. The artisanal badge refers to unique or handcrafted goods that “preserve culture and tradition.”

The recycled badge indicates that the item has been previously used or that it was made out of recycled materials. Finally, the vegan badge is fairly self-explanatory and simply means that the item was created without animals or any animal by-products. Each of these designations is important in their own right and makes it easier for the shopper to understand what it is they are buying.

When browsing the website, users can even filter their searches based on which badge(s) are most important to them. For example, a search can be narrowed down so that it only features clothing items or accessories that are vegan.

GALERIE.LA’s vast collection made up mostly of sustainable women’s fashion, accessories, and beauty products, as well as a few men’s items, is available online and can be shipped worldwide. They also have one brick and mortar location in the downtown Los Angeles Arts District. Like their online store, it features a carefully curated collection of clothing, accessories, and lifestyle items from ethical, eco-friendly brands.
