American fashion brand Farah is making strides in sustainability with its upcoming spring/summer 2021 collection.

They announced that all of its core lines for the spring/summer 2021 collection will be made with organic cotton.

This initiative is part of Farah’s overarching commitment to making the fashion industry more sustainable and ethical. Farah brand director, Mark McCann, stated that many fashion brands including Farah have chosen to make a considerable effort in the way of sustainability, as not only is it the right thing to do, but it’s what the consumer expects at this point.

Farah’s core basics spring/summer 2021 collection is already available online and consists of everything from T-shirts and polo shirts to sweatpants, hoodies, jersey shorts, chino pants, Harrington jackets, and button-up shirts.

All of the cotton sourced for Farah’s core basics lines was certified by one of two independent certification bodies: Organic Cotton Standard or Global Textile Standard. The former confirms the percentage of organic material in the finished garment, while the latter is known for being the textile processing standard for organic fibres of all kinds, including cotton. Further, Farah has ensured that the organic cotton used in the 2021 collection was sourced only from farms that subscribe to high standards relating to working conditions and worker rights.

McCann goes on to note that Farah’s new organic cotton collection is just the first initiative in a long line of plans the company has for a more eco-friendly and ethical future. For example, Farah is taking steps to ensure that each and every one of its manufacturers are actively working to improve their environmental standards, by implementing the Sustainable Apparel Coalition’s Higg Index.

Farah has also become an active member of I:CO, an international fashion recycling organization that is spearheading the collection and recycling of waste textiles around the globe.
