A new feature called Pocket Gallery has been launched on Google Arts & Culture’s app to enable users to view the paintings of Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer in augmented reality.
Noting how Vermeer’s paintings are located across 17 collections in seven countries, Google Arts & Culture in collaboration with the Mauritshuis museum and various other cultural institutions have digitized all 36 paintings attributed to Vermeer so that his work can be experienced in a virtual art gallery.
In the virtual gallery, users will be able to view Vermeer’s paintings in great detail while also learning more about the individual pieces.
Google’s Arts & Culture app is available on both iOS and Android.
