Belgium-based design company ecoBirdy has given a second life to old, discarded refrigerators by recycling them into tabletops for their Frost Table.

According to ecoBirdy, roughly 40% of a refrigerator’s weight is composed of recyclable plastic, which the design company says should not end up in landfills.

As such, ecoBirdy recycled internal parts of discarded refrigerators into tabletops, and to create what is described as a “unique nuance,” the transparent drawers and the white interior are matched.

“The curvilinearly shaped, chromatically ethereal surface comes with an icy palette that resembles the initial cooling purpose of its source, the layered texture recalls the original scope of the recycled material,” reads ecoBirdy’s press release.

ecoBirdy’s Frost Table is offered in three variations: bistro, coffee, and salon. All are priced at € 1,299 EUR.

Recently, ecoBirdy also created a special edition Frost Table for the UN Environmental Programme that is made from contact lens blister packs. In total, 5,825 contact lens blister packs were used for just one Frost tabletop. ecoBirdy says the project goal is to recycle 1 million disposable contact lens blister packs.
