Known for its premium handbags and sophisticated clothing, direct-to-consumer fashion brand Cuyana has now entered into the jewellery niche.
Cuyana’s new collection, simply dubbed Jewelry, was recently released on their website. The launch is an iteration of the brand’s philosophy, which is centred around a “fewer, better” motto that relates to creating quality, timeless pieces that last a lifetime.
Designed with the intention of it acting as a vehicle of self-expression, the line is made up of eight structural pieces that can be worn together or on their own. Each item was made to be worn in a variety of ways, with different styles of outfits.
Standouts in the line include the Asymmetrical Petal Hoop Earring, which was inspired by rose petals, the Pearl Drop Earrings which are the height of elegance, and the Crescent Hoop Earrings, which can be jazzed up with a Baroque Pearl or Sphere Embellishment.
In addition to the elegance and sophistication of each piece in Cuyana’s Jewelry collection, there is another reason why this new line is making waves: it was sustainably made. First, the entire collection was made by hand locally in New York City. Second, it was crafted specifically by female artisans. Third, the materials the jewellery was crafted out of are eco-friendly both in that they are designed to stand the test of time like the 14 karats plated gold, and that they used recycled metals, such as recycled brass.
The cast recycled brass that they utilize is proven to be more energy and resource-efficient compared to mining new raw materials. Finally, Cuyana shied away from trends in their jewellery designs, instead favouring a more classic look, which increases the wearability and longevity of each piece.
After all, Karla Gallardo, co-founder and CEO of Cuyana, believes that one of the most prominent acts of sustainability on the individual level is to get more use out of the items you already have, rather than getting sucked into the endless fast fashion cycle.
