In celebration for the 40th anniversary of The Hour Glass, a luxury watch retail group, Japanese studio nendo has designed a minimalistic clock with a sliced-off vertex as a stand.

Called cubic clock, it is made of solid, brushed aluminum. At noon and midnight, the long and short hands align in a vertical-upright position to complete the cube.

“The functionality of the clock is created by removing and cutting elements of the cube, rather than adding unnecessary parts and materials, resulting in a clock that reveals it’s true form, only twice in a day,” said nendo.

“The unconventional form and clever subtlety of the cubic clock embodies all the thoughtfulness, humour and refinement which defines nendo as a design studio,” said The Hour Glass. “It is of course an object which tells the time, but is also an object of our time whose form and aesthetic captures the very best qualities of good design today.”
