ChargePoint, a leading provider of networked charging solutions for electric vehicles (EVs), and South Korean company LG Electronics (LG) have announced a strategic partnership set to revolutionize the EV charging landscape. This collaboration will leverage ChargePoint’s industry-leading charger management software and LG’s advanced EV charging hardware, with the first commercial charging solutions expected to be delivered later this summer.

The partnership’s initial focus is on developing commercial charging solutions that integrate ChargePoint’s sophisticated software with LG’s high-quality AC and DC charging stations. This synergy promises to create cutting-edge, reliable, and efficient charging options for a broad range of EV users. As the partnership evolves, the companies plan to explore additional innovations, such as combining ChargePoint’s EV charging solutions with LG’s energy storage systems, integrating LG’s ThinQ smart home platform with ChargePoint’s Home Flex residential charger, and developing chargers that utilize LG’s digital-out-of-home advertising platform.

“LG shares ChargePoint’s commitment to enabling a world-class charging experience for all EV drivers, regardless of make, model, or connector type,” said Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint. “Together, we will develop market-leading EV charging solutions and pursue further opportunities to push the envelope thanks to our combined engineering expertise.”

Suh Heung-kyu, Global Head of the Electric Vehicle Charging business division of LG Business Solutions Company, echoed Wilmer’s enthusiasm. “There is incredible synergy between our two companies, and we expect this partnership to help LG become a global leader in the EV charging business,” he said. “This agreement exemplifies how LG continues to pursue strategic alliances to advance innovation and further strengthen our status as a total EV charging solutions provider.”

A key component of the partnership will be the operation of LG’s AC and DC charging stations using ChargePoint software. This collaboration aims to enhance ChargePoint’s expansive network of over 306,000 charging ports with LG’s dependable, high-quality EV chargers, filling gaps in current hardware offerings and addressing specific use cases where ChargePoint currently lacks ideal solutions.

The partnership is also poised to provide a competitive edge for public sector infrastructure projects, which often prioritize high-quality domestic production and stringent information security measures. LG’s U.S.-made EV chargers are UL-certified for stability and ENERGY STAR® certified for efficiency. These chargers, combined with ChargePoint’s FedRAMP-authorized cloud software, position the companies to effectively bid for U.S. federal government projects.
