Turkish denim manufacturer Calik Denim has teamed up with US-based fashion brand Good American, founded by Emma Grede and reality star Khloé Kardashian, to launch a sustainable denim collection.
Good American is known for being size-inclusive, especially when it comes to its jeans, which are available in sizes ranging from a 00 to a 24. However, through this new collaboration, they are taking inclusivity to new heights. Together, Calik Denim and Good American have created the Always Fits collection. It ultimately combines Good American’s inclusive nature with Calik Denim’s sustainable fabric and production process.
The entire collection is made out of a stretchy fabric and available in size ranges that cover between three and four sizes per pair. This unique “one size fits four” sizing strategy is meant to account for the naturally fluctuating weight of women’s bodies, with Good American claiming that women change sizes roughly 31 times during their adult lives, sometimes even changing up to five pounds in one week.
Creating jeans that account for the body’s natural weight fluctuations is in itself a sustainable act, but in addition to the inclusive fit, made possible through Calik Denim’s specially developed “self sized” fabric (a cotton blend with extreme elasticity), each pair of jeans in the collection was brought to life using the manufacturer’s state of the art Denethic technology.
Calik Denim’s Denethic technology works to reduce the energy and water usage needed to produce each pair of jeans. The technology was developed specifically with environmental sustainability in mind, and it is a method they employ throughout all aspects of their denim garment manufacturing supply chain.
How the unique technology works is by using a rinse-washed and rinse-and-enzyme-washed method, as well as bleached-look fabrics (rather than fabrics that are actually bleached), which ultimately results in water savings of 44%, 15%, and 32%, respectively.
For Calik Denim, this collaboration with Good American is part of the company’s “Passion for Life, Passion for Denim” sustainability initiative. They view this partnership as a chance to showcase an environmentally friendly alternative to the harmful denim practices out there. Not only was each pair of jeans produced sustainably, with minimal water and energy consumption, but every pair of jeans is built to last and to adapt to women’s changing bodies, preventing them from having to be thrown out every time the wearer’s weight fluctuates.
Similar to Calik Denim, Good American is also turning its focus towards sustainability for the year ahead. They have already shifted to using ethically produced fabrications in their denim, as well as environmentally safe washes. In addition, they have made the switch to eco-friendly packaging. Good American has stated that their goal is for 90% of their denim to be made out of sustainable fabrics by the end of 2021.
The new Good American x Calik Denim Always Fits collection features a range of trendy styles, including a skinny fit, high waisted options, ripped detailing, and several different washes, from medium to dark. Each pair offers a 100% stretchability guarantee, and comes in five size categories, which cover from an American women’s 00 to a 32. Prices range from $140 to $150 USD.
The eco-friendly and inclusive Good American x Calik Denim Always Fits collection is available now, exclusively on Good American’s website.
