With the goal of eliminating plastic wastes from the environment, a new personal care brand called by Humankind has been launched.

Offering shampoo bars, deodorant in a refillable container and mouthwash in tablet form, all of the products can be replenished without relying on single-use plastics.

With customers able to sign up for a customizable subscription service for product refill deliveries, biodegradable bamboo fibre-based packaging will be used to ship the products.

“Keeping our packaging footprint to a minimum is an extension of our mission, which is enabling our customers to reduce their single-use plastic waste, while not sacrificing quality or convenience,” said Brian Bushell, co-founder and CEO of by Humanity.

by Humankind has stated that those who use all 3 of their products (shampoo, deodorant, and mouthwash) will save roughly five pounds of single-use plastics over the course of a year.

“My wake-up call came while on a trip in Thailand,” said Bushell. “I was in a small boat among tiny, uninhabited islands, in an environment I’d expected to be untouched, when our boat became surrounded by a floating mass of plastic waste. I’d expect to see these things floating in Manhattan’s East River, I thought. But here?

“We’ve become irresponsible with our use of single-use plastic in our daily lives. According to the EPA, 1/3 of all waste in landfills is created by personal care products, and our landfills are filling up because 10 million tons of single-use plastic is finding its way into our oceans every year. That’s 28,000 tons of plastic, every day. We think it’s time to do better.”
