Among the many fashion companies joining the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic is Burberry, a luxury fashion house.
Known for its iconic and distinct design, Burberry is one of the leading fashion houses in today’s fashion industry. With a global supply chain network at hand, the British company has decided to put it to good use amidst closed retail stores and slumping sales by creating non-surgical gowns and masks for patients in UK hospitals and fast-tracking the delivery of 100,000 surgical masks for the medical staff of the UK National Health Service.
In addition, an undisclosed amount of money has been employed by Burberry to fund research for a single-dose COVID-19 vaccine developed by the University of Oxford.
“We are delighted with Burberry’s generous support for the University’s research into a vaccine for COVID-19,” said Professor Gavin Screaton, head of medical sciences at the University of Oxford. “Burberry’s gift is an example of forward-thinking corporate philanthropy that complements and bolsters government and other investment in Oxford’s leading global talent in this field. Donations like this have real and rapid impact, allowing us to be agile in our response, to accelerate this time-critical research.”
To combat food insecurity, especially in times of record-low unemployment where people are struggling to pay for rent, bills, and basic necessities, Burberry has donated to FareShare and The Felix Project, two UK-based charities that distribute food to those in need.
