New York-based artist Calvin Seibert uses just two plastic putty knives and a five-gallon bucket to create mesmerizing sand sculptures.

First building sandcastles as a child at local construction sites, Seibert imagined himself becoming an architect but realized as he grew up that he was more interested in the foundations, framing, and the sculptural aspects of buildings rather than creating plans and designs for the construction of buildings.

By combining his background in arts with his love for architecture, Seibert heads off to the beach with his tools to build sand sculptures purely out of his imagination.

“I rarely start with a plan, just a vague notion of trying to do something different each time,” said Calvin Seibert. “Once I begin building and forms take shape I can start to see where things are going and either follow that road or attempt to contradict it with something unexpected. In my mind they are always mash-ups of influences and ideas.”
