Industrial designer George Bosnas has created an ecological packaging called Biopack that is composed of cleared paper pulp, flour, starch and natural legume seeds.

“Recycling is a form of waste management that involves converting waste and other used materials into reusable products,” explained Bosnas. “But is it always worth it? Recycling is a multi-step process, involving transportation, sorting, processing, and making materials into new goods. It is difficult to assess its overall energy usage.”

“Economy isn’t exactly thriving from all its recycling efforts — because it becomes more expensive than ever to process all of our leftover junk,” added Bosnas. “How about packaging that user does not have to recycle but plant it so it grows?”

Described by Bosnas as being “a truly environmentally friendly product”, Biopack will break down and begin to sprout legumes after being planted and watered. In doing so, the fertility of the soil is also increased.
