With the mission to offer a choice for bottled water that is “cared for from end to end with the idea of nothing ever becoming waste”, New Zealand-based company For The Better Good is creating plant-based water bottles called Better Bottle.

With the bottle made from a 100% plant material, the compostable starch-based label uses compostable adhesive and environmentally friendly ink. The cap is made from recyclable plastic. According to For The Better Good, the bottles have a carbon footprint that is 78% less when compared to traditional plastic bottles.

Designed to be reused, the non-toxic bottles can be refilled at over 200 locations located throughout New Zealand.

The bottles can also be dropped off at select locations. The collected bottles are repurposed and or composted.

“We see an exciting future, where business can operate harmoniously with nature,” said For The Better Good. “Anything produced can be reused or reutilized an infinite number of times.”

“If anything is lost it can become a part of a natural ecosystem,” noted For The Better Good. “Here, it will provide a basis for regeneration. In this future, we move beyond something being sustainable to being regenerative. Where anything we produce benefits ecological growth and re-establishment and we help remedy the damages of past industrial practices.”

“This can only be achieved if we take full responsibility for what businesses produce throughout its entire lifecycle,” explained For The Better Good. “The plant bottle is our first step towards this future and our first commitment to a circular economy. It is better for us and the planet.”
