Google has launched a beta feature for Google Maps called Live View that provides augmented reality (AR) directions.

“There’s nothing like exploring a city on foot–it’s a great way to take in the sights and sounds of a new place. But it can be hard to know exactly which direction to go,” said Google.

Using the camera of a smartphone, arrows and information such as street names are “placed in the real world to guide your way”.

With Live View tested with Google Local Guides and Google Pixel users for the last few months, the beta expands Live View to Android and iOS devices that support ARCore and ARKit.
